
Water Polo Falls To CSUN In First Big West Match

Northridge, Calif. - No. 12 Beach water polo fell short against No. 7 CSUN Matadors at 7-6 in their first Big West Conference match. Freshman Alexandra Massier led the Beach with two goals.
In the first quarter, the Matadors scored two goals to start the match. Junior Kayla Robert scored the first goal for the Beach from the center position to end the quarter at 2-1.
During the second quarter, Massier threw her first goal in the back of the net from the center position. CSUN then scored three more goals and ended halftime at 5-2.
In the third quarter, LBSU took the control of the match. Senior captain Rachel Cretcher scored on a counter attack and the Matadors matched her with one goal to end the quarter at 6-3.
In the fourth quarter, the Beach stepped up the intensity and brought the fire back into their conference match. Junior Christina Kotsia scored the first goal of the quarter from the perimeter and senior co-captain Justine Morgan scored on a counter attack. To tie the match, Massier caught the ball off a rebound from a shot on a six versus five man up power play and scored for the Beach. CSUN then scored one more goal with a minute left in the match and won the game at 7-6.
Long Beach State will play again on Saturday April 11 against UC Davis at noon at the Ken Lindgren Aquatic Center.
