No. 14 LBSU Water Polo Continues Six Game Winning Streak

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State women's water polo win their sixth match in the home opener against Bucknell. The Beach won the match at 10-3.
In the first quarter, junior Christina Kotsia opened the match with a 5 meter penalty goal against the Bison. Freshman goalkeeper Marriette Harris had a shut out and did not let any Bison goals go by her. Junior Kayla Robert ended the quarter with a goal from the center position at 2-1.
In the second quarter, Buckell scored their first goal, but then senior Rachel Cretcher answered back with a goal from center. Senior Justine Morgan scored her first goal on a six versus five man-up power play to keep the lead for the Beach at 4-2.
In the third quarter, Morgan had two more goals from another power play and a penalty shot. Harris held the Bison off again with another shut out and junior Jessica Brooks out swam her opponent to score on a counter attack to end the quarter at 7-2.
In the final quarter, junior goalkeeper Alexis Butler stepped into the cage and saved a goal. Junior Emily Matheson scored a back handed goal from the center position and sophomore Daniela Screnci added on to the score board with a counter attack goal. To finalize the match, freshman Emily Garcynski scored a goal from center to seal the win for the Beach at 10-3.
Long Beach State will play again on Saturday March 14 at the Ken Lindgren Aquatic Center to play Caltech at 11 a.m. and Marist at 1 p.m.
