LONG BEACH, Calif. - Fresh off a dominant Big West victory over then-No. 41 UC Irvine, the Long Beach State women's tennis team readies itself for an even bigger road test. Beach Tennis heads up to Malibu, Calif. on Wednesday for a midweek matchup with No. 21 Pepperdine.
THE MATCHUP
· Long Beach State will face its biggest test of the year this weekend as it travels to No. 21 Pepperdine. The Waves are the highest ranked team currently on the 49ers schedule.
· LBSU is 1-20 all-time against Pepperdine with the win coming in 2012 at Pepperdine. The Beach ended the regular season with a 5-2 win over the Waves.
· The Pepperdine lineup contains two ranked players in No. 15 Lorraine Guillermo and No. 90 Apichaya Ranglerdkriangkrai. It also has one ranked duo in No. 73 Matea Cutura and Christine Maddux.
CONTINUING THE CLIMB
· With a dominating 6-1 win over UC Irvine on Friday, the Beach moved up five more spots in the national rankings to No. 30.
· It is the highest team ranking since the beginning of the 2007 season when the Beach spent the first five weeks of the season in the top-30.
· Despite dominating her last five matches with straight set wins, Maeva Razakasoa fell out of the top-100 of singles players nationally. She reached as high as No. 93 in the last edition of the rankings two weeks ago and is 4-0 since then.
ROZENBERG STILL UNBLEMISHED
· Senior Karolina Rozenberg has saved one of her best seasons for her last at Beach. She is currently 9-0 in dual matches this spring on the singles court and 20-2 overall this year. She has lost just one doubles match in the dual season and is 17-4 in all doubles matches.
· Her combined record of 37-6 this year is the best on the Beach Tennis squad.
· She currently has 158 total wins in her career, which ranks sixth all-time. Her 84 career singles wins has her tied for fifth all-time with Sarah Cantlay and trailing Rachel Manasse by four. She is 14 singles wins away from tying Anais Dallara for the school record. For those counting, there are 11 regular season matches left on the schedule. Those will be followed by as many as three Big West Tournament matches and then the NCAA Tournament, which would equate to 15 more team matches if the Beach reaches the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
HILT-COSTELLO GETS MILESTONE WIN
· The winningest coach in Long Beach State tennis history reached another milestone last week with Long Beach State's 6-1 win over UC Irvine. Jenny Hilt-Costello recorded her 300th career win.
