FIRST RUN
The Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams travel to the Inland Empire for the third time this season, as they prepare to take part in the Big West Conference Championships at UC Riverside's Agricultural Operations Course in Riverside. The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 8:30 a.m., while the men's 8K will start at 9:15 a.m.
49ERS IN THE RUNNING
Ashley Carrera, Kathleen Dunne, Mikayla Florez, Alexandra Lathos, Pauline Mandel, Janet Salazar and Valeria Soto will represent the women's team for LBSU. On the men's side, Andres Barragan, Sam Bautista, Tim Bergstrom, Cameron Ford, Angel Franco and Emilio Nunez will run for the Beach in Riverside.

LAST YEAR IN RIVERSIDE
Both men's and women's teams will be looking to improve from their performances from last year's Big West Conference Championships in Riverside. The men's team finished in fourth (8 teams) with 114 points, while the women placed seventh (9 teams) with 177 points. Kevin Ramirez finished in 16th with an 8K time of 24:44.9, while Pauline Mandel placed 21st with a 6K time of 21:42.1.
BEACH WOMEN PLACES FOURTH IN FULLERTON
The Long Beach State women's cross country team finished in fourth-place at the Titan Invitational back on Friday, Oct. 23 at the Titan Track Complex on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. LBSU collected 92 points in the 5,000-meter race. Sophomore Mikayla Florez led the way for the Beach, crossing the finish line in 18th in a time of 18:55.37.
MEN'S TEAM PLACES 13TH IN MINNESOTA
The men's cross country team finished in 13th place at the 30th Annual Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota at Les Bolstad Golf Course. LBSU collected 386 points in the men's 8,000-meter race, finishing just eight points behind Utah Valley (378) in 12th and 23 points behind UMKC (363) in 11th. Junior Sam Bautista led the way for the Beach finishing in 57th with a time of 26:07.6, followed by redshirt senior Tim Bergstrom in 73rd (26:22.7) and freshman Andres Barragan in 80th (26:26.6).
49ERS TAKE NINTH AT UC RIVERSIDE INVITE
The women's team finished in ninth-place (15 teams) at the UC Riverside Invitational back on Sept. 12. The Beach rounded up 255 points as junior Kathleen Dunne was the top runner for the 49ers, placing 17th with a 6K time of 21:30.3.
BEACH OPENS SEASON IN IRVINE
LBSU started off the 2015 campaign at the season opening adidas/UC Irvine Invitational where the men's team finished in second (13 teams) with 35 points and the women placed eighth (15 teams) with 194 points. Redshirt senior Tim Bergstrom led the way for the 49ers, finishing in second with an 8K time of 25:22.45, while junior Kathleen Dunne was the top runner for the women with an 5K mark of 18:28.50.
49ERS WELCOME GILLESPIE AS ASSISTANT COACH
Former University of Arkansas standout Kristen Gillespie enters her first year at the Beach as an assistant coach for the 49ers. A 2013 graduate from Arkansas, Gillespie was a seven-time All-American for the Razorbacks. She was also named the 2012 Southeastern Conference Indoor Runner of the Year and SEC Cross-Country Runner of the Year for 2011.
BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURNS TO RIVERSIDE
For the second consecutive year and ninth overall, the Big West Conference Championships return to UC Riverside's Agricultural Operations Course that is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 31.
WEST REGIONAL HEADS TO SEATTLE
This year's NCAA West Regional heads to Emerald City and to Jefferson Park Golf Club as the University of Washington will serve as hosts. The NCAA West Regional will be one of nine regionals around the country. Eighteen teams and 36 individuals will advance automatically to the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky. Thirteen teams and two individuals will be chosen by an NCAA subcommittee for at-large selections. The top 25 runners in each race receive All-Region recognition.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
LBSU returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 21, traveling to the Pacific Northwest for the NCAA West Regional at Jefferson Park Golf Club in Seattle, Wash.
