· The 49ers immediately begin defense of their Big West regular season title with a Friday afternoon match at Cal State Fullerton.
· The Beach has lost only one match to a conference opponent over the last three years and has won its last 14 matches in a row against Big West foes.
· Since the Big West started crowing a regular season champion in 2006, the Beach has won at least a share of seven of the nine crowns. LBSU has posted an undefeated Big West record in six of those seven championship seasons.
THE OPPONENTS
· Long Beach State is 39-15 against Big West rival Cal State Fullerton. In fact, the beach has more wins over Fullerton than any other program in its history.
· The 49ers have dominated the series of late and have not dropped a match to the Titans ssince 1994.
· LBSU is 9-21 against San Diego State but turned the tables over the last decade. LBSU has won its matchup with its southern rivals in each of the last nine years. The last two years have featured some tight contests with the Beach pulling out 4-3 wins at home and in San Diego.
AN EXPERIENCED GROUP
· The Beach roster may be dominated by underclassmen (six of eight), but it is loaded with experience. All four sophomores gained significant experience on last year's championship team while junior Ebba Unden and senior Karolina Rozenberg have each been in the lineup through their entire careers.
· Two freshmen joined the Beach for the spring semester in Ella Monsey and Alex Jones. The two have experience playing doubles together and have shown a great amount of success in the English junior circuits.
· Sophomore Maeva Razakasoa returns as the reigning Big West Player of the Year. The winningest freshman in Beach history starts the season ranked 16th in the region with aspirations of seeing her ranking rise.
· Rozenberg and Unden are both in the all-time top-25 for wins at the Beach. Rozenberg's total 139 wins rank seventh all-time while Unden broke the century mark for wins last year, becoming only the 16th player in Beach history to do so.
