LONG BEACH, Calif. - Former Long Beach State golfer Paul Goydos made a splash in the Champions Tour over the weekend, winning the Hawaii Championship in Kapolei, Hawai'i. Carding a 19-under total over four rounds, Goydos closed out the win with a 4-under 68 on Sunday.
Goydos, who turned 50 in June, only took five events to pick up his first win on the Champions Tour with his victory over the weekend. Goydos was tied with Fred Funk through two rounds, and went on to hold off Funk and Scott Dunlap by one stroke to close out his third professional victory.
Hawaii has been a good spot for Goydos, who had his best finish on the PGA Tour this season also on the islands at the Sony Open, a tournament that he won in 2007.
Goydos is a two-time winner on the PGA tour, and was a first-team all-conference selection with the 49ers in 1985, playing at The Beach from 1983-86.
