FIRST LAP
The Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams opens the 2014 campaign at the season opener Mark Covert Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Aug. 30. The men's 8,000-meter race is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. start, while the women's 5K is slated to begin at 9:15 a.m. Both races will take place at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea.
THE COURSE
The course consists of multiple loops alternating between a 1K grass inner loop in the main section of the park and a dirt trail nature loop. Spiked racing shoes or flats can be used on this course. The map course is attached in a PDF format above.

49ERS IN THE RUNNING
Redshirt junior Tim Berstrom and sophomores Sam Bautista, Jose Herrera, Emilio Nunez, Kevin Ramirez and Andres Velasco will represent the men's team. Senior Catherine Martinez will lead the way for the women's squad followed by redshirt junior Alexis Trujillo, redshirt sophomore Pauline Mandel, sophomores Xitlali Avila and Ashley Carrera and freshmen Mikayla Florez, Alexandra Lathos and Charlotte Utash.
LAST YEAR IN BREA
The 49ers will be looking to improve from last year's results at the Mark Covert Classic, where the men's team finished in third place (out of five teams) with 82 points and the women's squad came across the finish line in sixth of eight with 144 points. Former 49ers Hillary Zator and Jake Dawson were the top runners for the 49ers as Zator finished in fourth (18:10.8) and Dawson placed sixth (25:51.0).
COMING ATTRACTIONS
LBSU returns to action Saturday, Sept. 13, traveling to the Inland Empire for the UCR Invitational hosted by UC Riverside.
