TWO BIG WEST MATCHES CAPPED BY SENIOR SUNDAY
Long Beach State will continue its Big West schedule with two matches this weekend, capped by a home match for Senior Day on Sunday. The Beach will hit the road to face a red-hot Cal State Northridge team on Saturday and return to Long Beach to host UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at noon. With just three matches left in the season, all teams will be jockeying for a quality seed in the Big West Tournament.
THANK YOU SENIORS
The Beach will celebrate five seniors prior to Sunday's contest with UC Santa Barbara. The highly decorated senior class includes Kelly Ringel, Coriann Snyder, Chelsea Parks, Hillary Veselik and Nicole Van Derhoof. Both Snyder and Parks will leave the Beach as two of the top-10 scorers all-time. They are the highest scoring classmates since the duo of Lauren Sieprath (149 goals) and Krizia Cerda (121 goals), who both graduated in 2011. Only the Class of 2004 duo of Angelica Garcia (206 goals) and Roberta Stewart (142 goals) have scored more than Snyder and Parks. Ringel has also left her mark on history with the first-ever shutout for LBSU and will finish third on the all-time saves list.
SOME BIG WEST HISTORY
Long Beach State picked up its first Big West win last week and will be looking for a second this week. In the first two years of women's water polo being sponsored by the Big West, LBSU posted a 1-4 record each year. With seven teams last year, the Beach went 4-3 for its best Big West finish. The conference is back to five teams this season and Long Beach State is already looking for win No. 2 in conference play. The 49ers narrowly lost to CSUN in OT earlier this year and can grab that second win by avenging the 4-3 loss.
POSTSEASON AT THE BEACH
The Big West Tournament will take its turn in Long Beach this year with Long Beach State hosting the conference-wide tournament. The tournament to decide the Big West's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament runs Apr. 25-27 in the Campus Pool.
