
LBSU Drops Narrow 6-4 Contest To No. 11 UCSD

LONG BEACH, Calif. - A tie game heading into the fourth quarter turned into a narrow 6-4 victory for No. 11 UC San Diego over the No. 12 Long Beach State women's water polo team. The Beach scored three goals in the second quarter to tie up the game but couldn't find the net in the final quarter.
Four different players scored for the Beach with Emily Matheson, Kayla Robert and Justine Morgan all scoring in the second quarter. Hilary Veselik scored in the third. Leah Gonzales and Jolene Guiliana each had two goals to lead UCSD.
Alexis Wieseler and Sarah Lizotte each scored in the first quarter to give UCSD a 2-0 lead. Robert scored for the Beach in the first minute of the second quarter but Gonzales made it a two goal game again just 1:03 before halftime. The Beach had two clutch goals in the final minute of the half to tie things up at 3-3. Matheson scored with 37 seconds left and Morgan scored with just one second left to tie up the score.
The final minute of the third quarter was action packed as well as both goals scored in the quarter were scored in the final minute. Guiliana scored first for UCSD with 59 seconds to go in the quarter but Veselik scored just 23 seconds later to tie the game back up.
Unlike the two previous quarters, the fourth was front heavy with both UCSD goals coming in the first 1:15 to clinch the match for the visitors.
LBSU will look to rebound quickly as they head to Thousand Oaks, Calif. this weekend for four games at the Cal Lutheran Invitational.
