Cross Country Finishes Season at NCAA West Regional

STANFORD, Calif. - The Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams closed out the 2014 campaign on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course.
The men's team finished in 26th place with 705 points, while the women's squad placed 34th, collecting 919 points.
Redshirt junior Tim Bergstrom led the way for the 49er men's team, posting a personal-best in the men's 10,000-meter with a time of 31:40.7. Bergstrom eclipsed his previous-best by a full minute.
Sophomore Emilio Nunez finished in 129th (32:05.8), followed by sophomore Cameron Ford in 143rd (32:24.6) and redshirt junior Cameron Pantoja (161st, 32:46.6).
Sophomores Andres Velasco placed 162nd (32:47.4) and Sam Bautista in 176th (33:18.0) and Kevin Ramirez finished in 176th (33:18.0).
Oregon won the men's team title with 60 points, leading the field of 29 teams by 11 points over second-place Portland. Stanford's Maxim Korolev captured the individual title with a time of 29:33.5.
On the women's side, redshirt sophomore Pauline Mandel was the top runner for the 49ers, covering the 6K course in a time of 22:37.9.
Sophomore Kathleen Dunne placed 196th (23:42.2), followed by redshirt junior Alexis Trujillo in 198th (23:43.1) and freshman Charlotte Utash (206th) in a time of 23:57.9.
Freshman Mikayla Florez and sophomore Lali Avila placed 213th and 222nd respectively as Florez finished at 24:12.3 and Avila at 24:51.0.
Oregon captured the women's team title, leading the field of 34 teams with 88 points. Shelby Houlihan of Arizona State was the individual winner, leading the 230 runners with a time of 19:31.6.
