ATHENS, Ga. - Long Beach State fired a 3-under-par 281 in Friday's second round of the NCAA Athens Regional to move up in the standings and finish the day in a three-way tie for seventh place at the University of Georgia Golf Course.

LBSU improved by 16 shots from its opening round score of 297 to jump from 12th to the middle of the 13-team field. The 49ers are tied with Houston and Wake Forest with a 36-hole score of 10-over 578.

Top-seed Alabama remains on top of the team standings as the Crimson Tide holds a 12-stroke lead over East Carolina (-11) in second and 17 shots over North Florida (-6) in third. Regional host Georgia (E) sits in fourth, 23 shots behind Alabama.

Junior Philip Chian was the top player for LBSU as he fired a 68, tying his season-low round and placing seventh at 3-under 139. Chian's scorecard for the second round was almost bogey-free despite making just one bogey for the day at the par-4, 418-yard 14th hole. The Covina native started the day on the back-nine where he collected two birdies and six pars. Chian's front-nine was bogey free as he recorded two more birdies and seven pars.

Seniors Kevin Lim and Kevin Roy are tied for 30th at 3-over 145 as Lim carded a 71 and Roy tied his career-low with a 67. Lim improved by three shots to move up from 51st, collecting five birdies, eight pars and five bogeys. Roy improved by 11 shots to move up from 68th as the native from Syracuse, N.Y. was bogey free on the back-nine, recording four birdies and five pars. On the front, Roy came out even, making three birdies and three bogeys.

Freshman Xander Schauffele shot a 75 to tie for 59th at 7-over 149. Schauffele made just one birdie for the round, while recording 13 pars and two bogeys and one-double bogey.

Junior Raymond Ho improved by five shots for a 76 to tie for 72nd at 15-over 157.

Bobby Wyatt of Alabama shot a 67 to move up to the top spot and lead the field of 75 players by one stroke over his fellow teammate Justin Thomas.

Final round play concludes on Saturday with the 49ers teeing off at 5:40 a.m. (PST) from the 10th tee with Houston and Wake Forest. Live play can be followed on Golfstat.com.
