Long Beach state dropped its second game in a row at day two of the Long Beach State Invitational

Lakewood, Calif.- - Long Beach State battled 17th ranked UCLA in the nightcap of the Long Beach State Invitational, losing 14-0 in front of 1,262 fans at Mayfair Park. The game was called early after only five innings due to the mercy rule.

UCLA (17-6) threatened early in the top of the first inning, when Stephany LaRosa hit a ground rule double to right field. However, B.B. Bates singled to the third basemen and LaRosa was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

LBSU went three up and three down, in the bottom of the first, with a ground out to third and two strikeouts.

The top of the second inning began with a bang as Samantha Camuso knocked a homerun out of the park in center field. They added a second run when Dani Yudin scored off a left field single by Ally Carda. Yudin reached on a left field single, and advanced to third base off a fielding error and a wild pitch. UCLA scored an additional two runs with two outs gone in the inning. With the bases loaded, Andrea Harrison sacrifice flied out to center field scoring Carda and Talee Snow scored off an RBI single to left field, bringing the Bruins lead to 4-0.

Long Beach State (8-17) was held scoreless for the fifth game this season.

Opening the third inning, three straight UCLA batters were walked, to load the bases with no outs recorded. Snow knocked a full count ball into deep center field, scoring Camuso and Kellie Fox. Katie Schroeder dribbled a ball up the middle of the infield, scoring Duran from second base. Harrison recorded a base hit, to juice the bases for the second time in the inning, with only one out. Two pitches later, LaRosa blasted a grand slam to left field, bringing the Bruins lead to 11-0.

Schroeder scored another run for the Bruins in the top of the fifth inning; she reached base on a walk and was batted home on Camuso's fielder's choice. Muller scored the third run of the inning for UCLA, as she scored on a base hit down the right field line by Fox. Consecutive walks to Yudin and Carda pushed Devon Lindvall across home plate, bringing the Bruins lead to 14-0.

Cya Neal and Hannah De Gaetano recorded the only two hits for the 49ers in the contest.

Sophomore right handed pitcher Erin Jones- Wesley (8-8) allowed six runs to score off eight hits, during her 2.1 innings on the mound in the loss.

Bruins starting pitcher Ally Carda (7-2) allowed only two hits in the game and struck out eight batters on her way the victory over LBSU.

Long Beach State will host the North Carolina Tar Heels on March 10th, with a first pitch time scheduled to be 7:00 p.m. in continued play at the Long Beach State Invitational.
