Jones- Wesley allows only two hits in 49er victory over North Carolina

Lakewood, Calif.- - Long Beach State hosted the North Carolina as play continued at the Long Beach State Invitational. The 49ers defeated the Tar Heels 6-0 in the nightcap at Mayfair Park.
The Tar Heels were in position to score the first run of the game, but a strikeout by Logan Foulks and a deep fly out on the right field line ended the inning with Kelli Wheeler stranded on third base.
With two outs punched in the first inning, Nalani St. Germaine hitting a three run homer to deep center field off a 3-2 pitch.
With one out gone in the bottom of the third inning, Hannah De Gaetano drove a double to the center field fence scoring Shayna Kimbrough from first base. At the end of the third, the 49ers led 4-0.
Erin Jones- Wesley struck out three straight batters in the top of the fifth inning, to keep the Tar Heels scoreless. In her 13th complete game this season, she gave up only two hits, to Kelli Wheeler and Amy Nece, and struck out seven batters.
North Carolina threatened a comeback, as the bases were loaded with two outs recorded in the top of the sixth inning. Nece hit a slap to third base and beat out the throw before Foulks and Haleigh Dickey were hit by the pitch and walked, respectively. However, Scarboro popped up to the short stop on the third baseline to end the inning.
Consecutive walks to St. Germain and Carrasco as well as a single by Leilani Tupua- Tautalatasi loaded the bases with only one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Megan Denio snuck a single up the middle, scoring St. Germain and Carrasco. The two runs brought the LBSU advantage to 6-0.
LBSU used a balance offensive attack and six different batters recorded the six hits for the game. St. Germain had three RBI and Denio added two RBI's.
North Carolina starter Lori Spingola pitched six inning, allowing the six hits and six runs, managing to strike out eight 49er batters.
The 49ers hit the diamond March 11th hosting the Buccaneers from Charleston Southern University with the first pitch scheduled to be thrown at 3:45 p.m.
