Kotsia, Greece wins first World Youth Championships ever

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State women's water polo player Christina Kotsia, a Greek youth national player, returned from Perth, Aus. a world champion after Greece defeated Hungary 9-5 to win the first ever World Youth Championships hosted by FINA Dec. 1-9.
Thirty-four nations assembled upon Perth and competed in the tournament. This was the first time FINA has ever hosted such an event for water polo at the under-18 level.
"The whole experience was absolutely amazing!" said Kotsia. "I can't describe that moment when we raised the trophy; I couldn't believe that we were world champions."
The freshman played in all six matches for Greece and scored a goal in an 8-3 semi-final victory over the United States.
