FIRST TEE
The Long Beach State men's golf team travels to Bremerton, Wash. to start the 2011-12 season at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington. The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Monday, Sept. 26, with first and second round action and final round play concluding on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Both days will take place at the Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton and will begin at 7:30 a.m. with continuous play on Monday. Live action can be followed on golfstat.com.
HUSKY INVITATIONAL FIELD
LBSU will be among 16 teams competing in the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational as the 49ers will go up against tournament host Washington, BYU, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, Pepperdine, San Diego State, Santa Clara, SMU, USC, Texas A&M, UC Davis and Washington State.
LBSU CLOSES 2010-11 AT BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS
Long Beach State concluded the 2010-11 season under firsr-year head coach Ryan Ressa at the Big West Conference Championship in Mission Viejo. The 49ers finished in seventh-place in the nine-team field at 67-over 931. Senior Kevin Lim and junior Philip Chian tied for 24th, followed by senior Kevin Roy tied for 33rd and junior Raymond Hoplaced 45th.
49ERS RECEIVE BIG WEST SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
This past spring, the 49ers received the sportsmanship award from the Big West Conference. This was the first time a 49er men's golf team has won the award. LBSU had the most teams honored with three, including men's golf, men's track and women's track. The Sportsmanship Award is voted upon by the respective student-athletes in each of the Big West's 16 championship sports.
49ERS WIN FIRST TOURNAMENT IN SEVEN YEARS
LBSU claimed the team title at the Braveheart Classic in April. It was the first tournament title for the 49ers since winning the 2004 Big West Conference Championship at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. After finishing the first two rounds in sixth-place, the 49ers rebounded in the final round with a tournament best 277 to claim the tournament title at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
The 49ers return to action Oct. 9-11, traveling to La Quinta for The Prestige at PGA WEST hosted by Stanford and UC Davis.
