Del Toro places third at UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - The Long Beach State women's cross country team collected 106 points to finish in third-place at the Asics UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday morning at the Anteater Recreation Center.
Senior Rosa Del Torowas the top runner for the 49ers, crossing the finish line in third as she covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 17:32.3. Del Toro finished three seconds behind second-place Leanne Fogg of Cal Poly and 12 seconds behind race winner Lauren Jimison of Azusa Pacific.
Senior Nina Moore placed 10th with a time of 17:58.5, followed by juniors Michelle Thompson in 27th (18:32.2) and Prism Garcia in 29th (18:40.1) and senior Jessica Barnardin 38th (18:49.3).
Sophomore Anne Randall finished in 65th (19:12.6) with classmate Kylee Martinfour seconds behind (68th). Junior Andrea Gayton-Jacobs placed 77th (19:24.8) and freshman Madison D'Ornellas in 80th (19:29.1).
On the men's side, the 49ers had three runners compete in the men's 8,000-meter race. Sophomore Arturo Trejo crossed the line in 32nd with a time of 26:08.8, followed by junior Gabe Hilbert in 66th (27:06.4) and freshman Cameron Pantoja in 73rd (27:11.5).
The 49ers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, as they travel to the Inland Empire for the UC Riverside Invitational.
