
No. 12 49ers drop finale at UC Irvine Invitational

Irvine, Calif. - Long Beach State fell behind by a goal early against San Jose State, and was unable to pull back the Spartans in a tight match as the 49ers lost 10-8 in the final game of the UC Irvine Invitational. Meaghan Leonard had a career-high four goals to lead Long Beach State.
San Jose State took a 3-2 lead in after the first quarter, and held on to win 10-8 after a wild finish that saw both teams score four goals in the final period. Adriana Vogt had an amazing game for the Spartans, scoring seven goals to lead San Jose State to the win.
In addition to Leonard's four goals, Krizia Cerda scored a pair for the second game in a row, while Lauren Sieprath and Melissa Matheson also both scored.
The UC Irvine Invitational featured the top 12 teams in the rankings entering the week, including the 49ers. The Beach is back in action next Saturday, when the 49ers host No. 1 Stanford as well as the team's annual alumni game immediately following. The Stanford game is scheduled to begin at Noon on March 6.
