STANFORD, Calif. - The Long Beach State cross country team travels to Northern California for the 37th edition of the Stanford Invitational on Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course. The 8,000-meter men's collegiate race is scheduled for a 10:50 a.m. start, while the women's 6,000-meter collegiate race will start forty minutes later at 11:30 a.m. The Stanford Invitational is one of the largest meets of the season that features runners from high school to the collegiate ranks.
Last year, the men's team finished in fifth among 18 teams with 168 points. Josh Ruff was the top runner for The Beach as he crossed the finish line in 19th (24:50).
The women's squad will be looking to improve from their seventh place tie from last year's meet. The 49ers and fellow Big West Conference member Cal Poly both tallied for 201 points. Liz Ramos led the way, finishing in 22nd with a mark of 21:39.
LBSU is coming off from another successful weekend, as junior Rosa Del Toro won the Aztec Invitational 5K in a time of 18:02 and sophomore Nina Moore grabbed second place, finishing just three seconds behind. The women's squad placed second earning 61 points, just six points shy of team champion BYU (55).
On the men's side, the 49ers were led by freshman Andrew Garcia as he crossed the line in fifth with a time of 26:05. LBSU placed third in the men's 8K race.
