Thirteen 49ers earn track and field postseason honors

LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State track and field team had 13 athletes earn All-Big West honors, while three 49ers also garnered All-West Region recognition.
Kenneth Medwood, Randi Hicks and Alex Shaw had top 12 performances at the NCAA West Preliminaries to claim all-region accolades. Medwood took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles, while Shaw and Hicks finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the women's javelin. The three will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, June 9-12, in Eugene, Ore.
The LBSU men, who took second at the Big West Championships, had 11 athletes bring home all-conference honors. Medwood (400H, Long Jump, 4x400) and Sam Jeter (400H, 4x100, 4x400) led the way with a trio of top three finishes. Nimrod Piggee (110H, 4x100) and Alex Freitas (800m, 4x400) were also multiple All-Big West performers.
Medwood (400H) and Hicks (javelin) were the 49ers' two conference champions.
