49ers wrap up action at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - The Long Beach State track and field team established three lifetime bests on its final day at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Jessica Barnard led the LBSU women as she won her 800m heat in a personal-record 2:12.69. Barnard, who topped her previous best by over a minute, now ranks sixth on the 49er all-time charts.
Jennifer Rodriguez also established a lifetime-best and the ninth-fastest 1500m mark in school history as she clocked in at 4:33.78 to finish fifth in her heat and 26th overall.
Alisia Barajas rounded out the evening for the women with a top 20 showing in her section of the 5000-meter run. Barajas ran a personal-best 17:08.88, which also ranks eighth in 49er history.
In the field events, Alex Shaw and Randi Hicks both had top 10 performances in the women's javelin invitational. Shaw took sixth overall with a season-best 164-11, while Hicks was seventh (161-10). Kayla Kamaka also finished 13th in the pole vault, clearing 11-03.75.
On the men's side, Matt Maldonado placed ninth overall in the 1500m with a time of 3:48.27, while Raul Arcos registered a season-low 3:53.66.
Alex Freitas took eighth in Section 1 of the men's 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 1 minute, 52.37 seconds.
Long Beach State returns to action on Saturday, April 17, when it hosts the Beach Invitational at Cerritos College. The field events are set to get underway at 9 a.m., while the track competition begins at 10 a.m.
