LBSU set to entertain Illinois-Chicago in Tuesday doubleheader

LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State softball team will play host to Illinois-Chicago in a doubleheader beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 23.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES
UIC is looking to snap a six-game losing streak as it brings a 6-18 record into Tuesday's doubleheader. Melinda Macias has paced the Flames with a .424 batting average, while Devin Miller owns a team-best 2.68 earned run average.
SERIES RECORDS
Long Beach State leads in its series with Illinois-Chicago, 9-2. The two teams met earlier this year at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., with the 49ers edging the Flames, 4-3, in eight innings. LBSU has not lost to UIC since 2001 as it has won the last eight games in the all-time series.
DEBAUN'S STREAK
Freshman Caitrin DeBaun is currently on a season-long six-game hitting streak. She hit safely in all five contests last week, including a 2-for-3 performance against Oregon State. DeBaun also had an RBI in the first four games of the San Diego Classic II. The Garden Grove, Calif., native finished the weekend with a .562 batting average (6-for-13).
RING ONE UP FOR REYES
Senior Brandy Reyes also had a strong outing last weekend. Reyes finished with five hits, two multiple-hit games and four RBI. Against Oregon State, she went 2-for-2 with three RBI, two of which came off one swing of the bat as she connected for her first home run of the season.
FOR THE RECORD
Brooke Turner is making her way up several categories in the 49er career record books. She currently ranks second in strikeouts (466), tied for sixth in shutouts (25), seventh in wins (51), and ninth in complete games (59) and appearances (82).

Long Beach State heads to UCLA on Friday, March 26, for a 2 p.m. showdown against the fifth-ranked Bruins.
