Santa Barbara, Calif. - Women's water polo finished their time in Santa Barbara Sunday, losing to San Diego State and UC San Diego.
Long Beach State was defeated by No. 6 San Diego State 19-7 in the first match of the day, and then, facing the Tritons for the fourth time this year, UC San Diego finally defeated Long Beach State 11-10.
In the opener, Long Beach State fell behind early to the Aztecs, and were unable to recover against the No. 6 team in the nation. Krizia Cerda led the 49ers with three goals, as Long Beach State fell behind 5-1 in the first period.
In the tournament finale for the team, Long Beach State faced No. 19 UC San Diego for the fourth time on the year. The 49ers had taken the three previous meetings in close contests, but the Tritons held on to get the win on Sunday. UC San Diego took a 6-2 lead heading into halftime after five second period goals, and while Long Beach State pulled within one behind four goals from Branwyn Lee, the 49ers were never able to get back on top.
Long Beach State finally returns home after over a month on the road, hosting Princeton at the campus pool in their next action on March 18. That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
