Starting Off
No. 16 Long Beach State starts off the season with a tough test, hosting No. 3 UCLA for their opener at the Campus Pool. While the contest is the first for the 49ers, UCLA opened the season at a tournament in the Midwest, where the Bruins picked up three wins, including a decision over No. 8 Michigan.
Warm Welcomes
The Beach had a great turnout for their first exhibition of the year, as the current 49er squad defeated the Alumnae 5-3. Lauren Sieprath scored two second quarter goals to stake the 49ers to a 4-1 lead as part of the second-team. First-year head coach Gavin Arroyo used the scrimmage as a chance to experiment with the lineup, using most of the squad at some point in the match.
Taking a Trip
After playing their home opener on Thursday night, the 49ers head immediately into more matches this weekend, traveling south the UC San Diego tournament on February 7-8. Long Beach State is one of 11 ranked teams participating the in tournament this year, which boasts a 16-team field.
