Long Beach - Long Beach State travels up to Northern California this weekend as they take part in the 35th edition of the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto. The women's 6K race will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the men's 8K will start at 10:50 a.m.
Both men's and women's squads will be looking to improve their performances from last year's race as the women finished in 9th place and the men finished in 10th. Seniors Sarah Apgar, Carly Harris and Kristina Wilson will be the leading force for the women's team and sophomores Travis Kuhlman and Josh Arrieta will give added depth and the potential for a high finish for the men's team.
"We are excited for the Stanford Invitational," said distance coach Patrick Cunniff.. "It is a great meet and there are very strong fields in both the men's and women's races. It gives us a chance to test ourselves against great competition and see how far along we are in our preparations for conference and regional championship meets."
Apgar was the top runner for the women's team at last year's race as she finished in 24th place with a time of 21:45. Harris crossed the finish line in 46th at 22:15 and Wilson came in two spots behind in 48th with a time of 22:17. For the men, Kuhlman showed a strong performance last season as he was the second best finisher for The Beach as he crossed the line in 69th place with a time of 25:30.
