Des Moines, Iowa - Senior Brent Gray continued his outstanding final year by advancing to the finals of the 200m dash at the outdoor track and field championships on Thursday. Gray will run in the finals on Saturday, which will be televised on CBS. Chris Richardson also finished his run in the decathlon on day two, earning All-American status with a fifth-place finish.
Gray, who also qualified for the NCAA championships in the 100m dash and 4x100m relay, turned in a time of 20.88 to qualify as one of six provisional entries into the finals after competing in the fastest preliminary heat, with four runners posting sub-21 second times.
The finals are scheduled for 3:45 CDT on Saturday, June 14, as Gray will try to reach his best mark of the year, a 20.58 set at the Big West championships, where he won the title.
Finishing his time at the NCAA championships, Chris Richardson came up just short in the decathlon, but still became a two-time All-American in the process. Trailing by 302 points going into the second day, Richardson was unable to make up the gap on Tenessee's Jangy Addy, but moved up to fifth place overall with a score of 7,594, including a competition-best throw of 215'8" in the javelin.
By finishing fifth, Richardson earned his second All-American finish in his career. He took third place in the 2006 decathlon with a score of 7,605.
