IRVINE--Long Beach State Baseball swept through the major awards for the Big West Conference, with Andrew Liebel being named tri-Pitcher of the Year, first baseman Shane Peterson being named co-Player of the Year and Mike Weathers earning Big West Coach of the Year.
Earning a spot on the honorable mention squad were junior shortstop Danny Espinosa, senior second baseman Jason Tweedy and outfielders junior Jason Corder and freshman Jonathan Jones.
Liebel shared the award with fellow Clemens Award Semifinalist UC Irvine's Scott Gorgen and CS Fullerton's Jeff Kaplan, while Peterson shared the award with UC Davis' Jake Jefferies.
Liebel is the seventh Long Beach State Pitcher to be named the Big West's top arm, while Peterson is the fourth Player of the Year from LBSU. The duo were both named to the first team as well.
Peterson and Espinosa are named all-conference for the third time in their careers, making them the ninth and 10th LBSU players to rack up that many, while Liebel, an honorable mention pick in 2007, earned the award for the second time.
Peterson led the league in hitting (.399) and on-base (.510), and was second in slugging to Corder, while Liebel led the conference in ERA (1.81) and innings pitched (109.2).
Weathers was named the Big West's Coach of the Year for the second time and first time since 2003. It was also the team's second conference title under Weathers, as the team rebounded from a 2-4 conference mark to a co-championship in the Big West.
