Long Beach, Calif. - Freshman Brooke Turner was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week for the last week of the Big West season following two shutouts against Pacific. With the honor, she passes her sister Michelle, setting the record for most selections with eight in one season.
Turner tied the Long Beach State single-season record for victories with her 26th of the season in two wins over Pacific over the weekend. Pitching two complete-game shutouts, Turner allowed just eight hits in two games while striking out fifteen.
The two shutouts also set another single-season record for the freshman. Her 16th and 17th shutouts of the season passed the old Long Beach State mark of 15, shared by three pitchers.
Turner will get a chance to break the single-season wins record this weekend, as the 49ers travel to Iowa as the top-seed for the NCAA Regionals. The double-elimination tournament begins on Friday, when the 49ers play Creighton at 5 p.m.
