SAN DIEGO--Eleventh-seeded CS Northridge (13-18) upset 10th-seeded Long Beach State (15-17), 8-7, on Saturday at the MPSF Championships, sending the 49ers into the 11th Place Game on Sunday.

Jessica Coy scored the final of her three goals with 90 seconds in the fourth to put the Matadors up for good, at 8-7, after the 49ers tied it at 7-7 with 2:32 remaining in regulation on a Rachelle Denaro goal. Jillian Stapf made 13 saves in goal for CSUN in the win.

CSUN started quick, scoring the first three goals of the game, as the 49ers rebounded to trail just 4-3 at the end of the first eight minutes. In the second period, Long Beach State took its first lead of the game at 6-5 and went into intermission tied at 6-6.

In a defensive second half, the Matadors recorded the lone goal in the third with 2:48 remaining to move ahead 7-6, before both teams traded goals in the fourth quarter.

The 49ers will play 12th-seeded UC Santa Barbara at 9 a.m. to close out their season.
