LONG BEACH-- Vance Worley (4-2) pitched a complete game eight hitter on a 94-degree day to even the series with No. 7-ranked UC Irvine (22-6, 4-4 Big West), leading No. 16-ranked Long Beach State (19-13, 2-3 Big West) to a 5-1 win.

Worley struck out three and walked one, as he gave UC Irvine a 1-0 lead in the seventh, only to watch the Dirtbags explode for five runs in the bottom of the inning and snap a four-game losing streak.

Brandon Godfrey opened the inning with a walk, as Jonathan Jones RBI single tied it at 1-1. TJ Mittelstaedt followed with his second triple in as many days, before Danny Espinosa's two-run triple off the wall made it 5-1. Four UCI pitchers were tagged for runs in the inning.

Espinosa drove in two runs for the second straight day with his second-straight multi-hit game.

Matt Dufour (0-1), who relieved Bryce Stowell after six-plus innings, took the loss, giving up two of the five runs in the seventh. Stowell gave up one run on three hits, but walked six to start for UCI.

The Anteaters finally broke through in the seventh, scoring on a two-out single up the middle by Ollie Linton to lead 1-0.

The finale of the three-game series will be on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The game will also be on national television on the CBS College Sports Network and the pre-game ceremony starting at 2 p.m. will honor the 1998 College World Series team. A pre-game BBQ starting at 12:30 p.m. will also honor members of the World Series staff.
