Turner Earns Sixth Pitcher Of The Week Award

Long Beach, Calif. - Freshman Brooke Turner was named the Big West Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 31 by the conference office this week. Turner hurled two complete game shutouts, giving the freshman eleven on the season.
Ranked No. 14 in the country, Long Beach State swept their opening conference series on the road, relying heavily on the arm of Turner. In the opening game, Turner outlasted Aggie starter Jessica Hancock, winning 1-0 while striking out eight and allowing four hits. The next day, she was even better in a 4-0 win, again giving up no runs and just two hits while striking out seven.
On the weekend, Turner gave up no walks and just one extra-base hit. Now winning six of the eight Big West POW awards so far this season, Turner is one away from the school and conference record for the award held by her sister, Michelle Turner. Michelle won seven awards for Long Beach State in 2006.
