Linke Triple Lifts Beach To UC Davis Sweep

Davis, Calif. - Long Beach State's first hit was the biggest, as Danielle Linke's triple to left scored two runs which would be more than enough in a 4-0 victory. Brooke Turner went the distance, striking out seven on the way to her 11th shutout on the year.
One day after a 1-0 battle, Turner and UC Davis starter Jessica Hancock again were locked in a tight duel on Saturday. Hancock held the 49ers hitless through three innings, and Turner allowed just one hit over the same period.
Long Beach State finally broke through in the fourth inning, as Jonae Perez drew a leadoff walk to start off the frame. After being pushed over by Lacy Tyler, a wild pitch mover pinch runner Casey Burba to third, and Brooke LeSage walked to put two runners on. LeSage grabbed her seventh steal of the season moving to second, and Linke came through with the 49ers first hit, a triple past a diving Sarah O'Neill to score both Burba and LeSage.
The Beach added another insurance run in sixth, as another leadoff walk to Jonae Perez started another rally. A single from Lacy Tyler and a sacrifice from Jennifer Griffin put two runners in scoring position, and a long LeSage sacrifice fly brought home Perez.
Ashley Levine's double in the seventh inning led to Long Beach State's final run, scoring after a groundout and an RBI single by Brianna Goad. Turner shut down the side in the seventh to seal the win, allowing just two hits to Aggie batters.
The 49ers play one more conference series on the road next week before returning to Long Beach State for their home Big West opener. Long Beach State heads to Cal State Northridge for two Noon starts on April 5-6 before hosting Cal Poly on April 12-13.
