Northridge, Calif. - Brooke Turner struck out ten in a two-hit shutout for an opening game win against Cal State Northridge, but a two big innings for Cal State Northridge keyed a 9-1 win in game two for the Matadors. Danielle Linke added her seventh triple on the year before scoring the winning run in the 1-0 opener.

Turner was again dominant against the Matadors in game one. Moving through five innings before giving up a hit, Turner hit double-digit strikeouts for the sixth time this season with 10 total in a complete game win. Turner completed her 12th shutout of the season, holding back the Matadors and allowing just two hits.

Long Beach State picked up their run in the second inning, as Danielle Linke stroked her seventh triple of the season to give the 49ers an opportunity with two outs. Second Basemen Ashley Levine then came up with a hard hit ball that Tracy Allen was unable to handle, bringing home Linke as Levine reached first on the error. Amanda Pitzenberger closed out the inning, and would not allow another hit despite six hits from Long Beach State throughout the rest of the contest.

In the second game, pitching was again the early story, as Mecedes Lovato was in control, matching 49er starter Bridgette Pagano through the early innings as both teams moved through three scoreless to begin the game.

Cal State Northridge struck in the fourth, as Amanda Peek cracked a leadoff home run to break open the deadlock. With no outs, Allen continued the rally with a single to second base, and another Matador batter reached with one out on an error. With runners on second and third, Cal State Northridge got the second big hit of the inning as Jaclyn Rymer doubled over the head of Brianna Goad in center, bringing home both runners to make the score 3-0.

The 49ers added a run in the fifth to cut the lead back to two. Danielle Linke opened the inning with Long Beach State's second hit of the game, and Ashley Weber was beaned to put her on along with pinch runner Casey Burba. Burba moved to third on a flyout to right from Brianna Goad, and then scored on an error from Pitzenberger.

Trouble continued to brew for the 49ers in the fifth however, as a three-run home run by Alex Alrarado highlighted a six run-inning for Cal State Northridge that ended the game in five innings.

Long Beach State will get their chance to take their second conference series of the year in the rubber game with Cal State Northridge tomorrow. First pitch from Matador Diamond is scheduled for Noon Sunday.
