Fullerton, Calif. - Trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, Long Beach State bounced back with a grand slam from Danielle Linke to pick up a 5-2 win over UNLV. The 49ers put five runs across without an out to pick up their fourth win of the week.
Both Bridgette Pagano for Long Beach State and Stephanie Bregante for UNLV were in control in the circle early, as both teams moved through five scoreless innings in the tournament finale. However, after a leadoff single form Brittany Bolinger, the Rebels took a 2-0 lead on a home run by Jaci Hull.
Long Beach State took advantage of some late wildness from Bregante to pick up the win however. Jonae Perez led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to left. Following the initial hit, both Lacy Tyler and Jennifer Griffin drew walks to load the bases, and Brooke LeSage was hit by a pitch to get the 49ers first run on the board. Then with one swing of the bat on a 2-1 pitch, Linke lifted a home run to center field to put the 49ers ahead 5-2.
Pagano would retire the side in order in the top of the seventh to preserve her tenth win of the season. She finished with two strikeouts and no walks while allowing five hits and two runs.
Long Beach State begins conference play next weekend, traveling to UC Davis for three games. The first is scheduled for Noon, March 29th at La Rue Field in Davis, Calif.
