Long Beach, Calif. - Brooke Turner earned her third straight Big West Pitcher of the Week award as announced by the conference office on Monday. Turner's selection is the fifth of the season for the freshman.
Putting together another great week, Turner posted a 3-0 record with wins over two ranked opponents and allowing just one run while grabbing shutouts number eight and nine on the year.
Turner began the week with six strikeouts in a 6-0 shutout win over Iowa State, and hurled another six K complete game shutout in a 1-0 victory against No. 23 San Diego State on the road. Closing out her week, she knocked off her second No. 5 opponent on the year with a 2-1 win over Texas A&M. Turner struck out seven Aggies and allowed just four hits against a lineup that is hitting just under .300 on the season.
Having now won five Big West Pitcher of the Week awards, Turner is now tied with Gina Oaks of Cal State Fullerton, and is chasing just one other player for the most POW awards in one season; her sister Michelle, who won seven times at Long Beach State during the 2006 season.
