SAN DIEGO-- Long Beach State (9-10, 3-4 MPSF) split its two games at the Aztec Invitational on Saturday, falling 9-7 to No. 6-ranked San Diego State, before crushing Colorado State 14-6.
Against the Rams, Lauren Sieprath scored a career-best five goals and Brittany Thornback added three as the 49ers cruised past Colorado State. LBSU led 3-2 after the first period, before breaking open the game with four goals in the second and third periods to lead 11-4.
In the earlier contest, the 49ers led No. 6-ranked San Diego State for the first three quarters, only to fall 9-7 at the Aztec Invitational in the team's early game on Saturday.
The 49ers jumped out to a 5-3 first quarter lead and led 5-4 at the half and 6-5 after the third period, only to watch the Aztecs outscore The Beach 4-to-1 in the final frame to win.
Kelsie Emerick and Rachelle Denaro had two goals a piece in the loss.
The 49ers return home to host Maryland at noon and Princeton at 3 p.m. on March 18.
