Long Beach - After winning the Santa Clara Invitational last weekend for both the men's and women's teams, Long Beach State gets back into action as they head to Orange County for the Titan Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Oct. 24.
The women's 5K is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m., while the men's 8K will begin at 5:05 p.m.
Last year, the 49ers finished in fourth place in the men's race and eighth in the women's meet. Sophomore Steven DeCastro was the top runner for The Beach as he crossed the finish line in 13th with a time of 26:25. On the women's side, Jelani Carter, was the top 49er as she finished in 51st with a mark of 20:33.
In the lastest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association West Regional Poll, the Long Beach State women's team is ranked No. 15.
"We are using this meet as a chance to aid the development and add experience for runners who have been working hard this Fall," said distance coach Patrick Cunniff. "As for the women's team being ranked, it shows that we are coming around at the right time and that people have respect for how we performed at Santa Clara. However, having finished 10th at the West Regional last year, I know this group believes they are capable of even more."
