Silos Leads 49ers To Victory
LONG BEACH-- Kim Silos had done it a school-record 10 times before, and did it once again on Friday, scoring in the 105th minute to give Long Beach State (3-3-0) a 2-1 double overtime victory over Oklahoma (3-1-1). Silos also tallied the first goal in the contest, to give the 49ers a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, prior to Oklahoma tying it with 3:33 left in regulation. The win snaps a three-game losing streak by the 49ers, their longest in Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia's tenure, all one goal losses to top-25 teams. The winning score was set up by freshman Nikki Myers, whose shot was the eighth save by Oklahoma goalkeeper Jennifer Nichols. The shot bounced back to Silos, who connected with 104:15 in the contest. The 49ers, who outshot the Sooners 15-to-5 in regulation, were well on their way to the victory, before Shana All passed to Tenesha Duncan in the 87th minute, following a corner kick, to tie it at 1-1. Hayley Bolt then had a chance to win it in the 95th minute, but her shot went wide right as the game went into the second 10-minute overtime period tied at 1-1. LBSU outshot the Sooners 20-to-5, as Liz Ramos made three saves, including a catch in the 65th minute off the foot of Kelsey Allison. Duncan had a chance to tie it earlier in the 56th minute, but her intended shot was broken up first by Ramos. Oklahoma was held without a shot for the first 31 minutes of the contest. The 49ers also had to contend with the loss of starting defender Julie Megorden, who injured her knee in the 28th minute. Reserve Amanda Perry was a strong replacement the rest of the way, settling into the middle of the backfield and making key plays throughout the contest.
