49ers Sweep Past Big-12 Foes Paced by Silos, Farquhar
LONG BEACH—Dana Farquhar and Kim Silos traded off on scoring as Long Beach State (4-3-0) posted their second-straight victory of the weekend, cruising by Baylor (4-2-1) 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. Baylor and Friday's opponent, Oklahoma, both entered the weekend undefeated, as the 49ers outshot the two Big-12 opponents 37-to-11. Farquhar opened up the scoring, taking a cross from Silos in the 14th minute to connect from 22 yards out to give LBSU a 1-0 lead. In the 52nd minute, Farquhar returned the favor, crossing a ball deep in the 49ers end, off a Baylor defender and back out to Silos. Silos, settled, connected and scored at 51:26 to double the lead for the 49ers. Freshman Kristen Kiefer finished off the scoring a minute and eight seconds later, scoring on her own rebounded shot at 52:34 to give LBSU a 3-0 lead. The 49ers peppered Baylor goalkeeper Ashley Noah in goal, as the team's first eight shots were on goal, over the first 24 minutes. Noah made her first seven saves over that stretch en route to 12 on the day. LBSU finished the day outshooting the Bears 17-to-6, with 15 on goal. The Beach returns to action next weekend when they travel to the University of Oklahoma's Classic against Middle Tennessee and North Texas. |
