Deborah Armstrong Signs NLI

LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State Head Women’s Tennis Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello announced today that Deborah Armstrong has signed a National Letter-of-Intent with the school. Armstrong hails from London, England and will be a freshman in 2007-08 for the 49ers.

Armstrong will arrive at LBSU after having earned a career-high ITF World Junior ranking of #238 and a #4 British LTA under 18 junior ranking. She has competed in 28 ITF World Junior Tournaments, having won two singles titles, as well as competing at the 2006 Wimbledon Junior Championship. This past January (2007), she reached the finals of the Ariel Grand Prix Masters Tournament.

"Deborah has experienced a successful junior career and her Lawn Tennis Association rating is very strong," said Hilt-Costello. "We are very familiar with the UK tennis system as she is the fifth English student-athlete we have signed since 2001. I would expect she will immediately compete for a position well into our line-up. Deborah also has a very strong academic record, like all our former and current girls from the UK. We are excited she has chosen Long Beach State."

Armstrong joins previously announced recruits Lisa Hagele (Gaildorf, Germany) and Stephanie Jeanes (Sydney, Australia) for the 2007-08 tennis freshman class.
