Ashman Pitches a Five-Hitter after LBSU Wins First Two

LONG BEACH, CA-- Chris Ashman (3-3) pitched a complete game five hitter, as Oral Roberts (16-14) salvaged the final game of the three-game series, defeating host No. 23-ranked Long Beach State (16-12) 3-2. Ashman retired the final seven batters of the game after a fielder's choice and error cut the game to one.

Ashman pitched a four-hit shutout over the first six innings, using just 57 pitches, before giving up two runs in the seventh as LBSU closed to within 3-2.

Omar Arif (1-5) went the first four and two-third innings, giving up a single run on five hits over 69 pitches for LBSU. Oral Roberts scored two runs (one earned) off of reliever Daniel Wolford in the seventh to lead 3-0. The Dirtbags chipped into the lead after the seventh inning stretch, scoring twice on an RBI single from pinch-hitter Kyle Morgan and an error by second baseman Jake Kahaulelio to make it 3-2.

It was Arif's fourth loss of the season after he started and gave up two or fewer runs.

The Beach remains home next week when they host Pepperdine for an earlier than scheduled 5 p.m. completion of a 7-7 tie in Malibu in February and the regularly scheduled game following. LBSU then returns to conference play next Friday against CS Northridge.
