to Finish Season
TEMPE, AZ-- 10th-seeded Long Beach State (8-19) finished off its 2007 season by finishing eighth at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, falling 15-10 to ninth-seeded UC Irvine (19-13) in the seventh place match on Sunday. It is their first losing season since 2000. UC Irvine jumped out a 9-6 halftime lead as LBSU could never get back in the contest, as Cecilia Canetti, a MPSF All-Freshman pick, scored three goals. In the final collegiate game for seniors Megan Winchell, Marina Canetti and Christina Wensman, they each had two goals. Kim Hayes finished her career with 13 saves and 32 saves in the tournament and 408 in her career (third all-time). Wensman finished her career ninth all-time in goals with 110. It was also the final game for starter Ashley Heaslip and reserve Angela Angstadt. |
