Beach Takes Series From Cal State Fullerton "I'm very pleased with the way the team played this weekend," said first year Head Coach Kim Sowder. "The team played with a lot of heart and confidence and made a lot of great defensive plays. Fullerton is a great team and I give them a lot of credit for the way they played, but I'm just really proud of how our team responded and never gave up." Bridgette Pagano (13-9) picked up the win as she pitched 5.2 scoreless innings of relief. Kelly Cross lasted 1.1 innings allowing one run on three hits and two walks. Lacy Tyler had a solo homerun and Brianna Goad went 2-for-2 with a walk to lead the 49er offense. The Titans scored their first and only run in the second inning when Jessica Doucette's RBI single scored Katie Gollhardt. Trailing 1-0 heading into the fourth inning, Long Beach State used a two-out rally to take a 3-1 lead. Fullerton ace Candice Baker issued back-to-back walks to Jessica Beaver and Panita Thanatharn to start the inning, but retired the next two batters. Breezy Goad then came through for the 49ers with a single up the middle to score Beaver before Thanatharn scored on a passed ball. Whitney Radcliff's RBI single to left field scored Goad before Ashley Levine struck out to end the inning. The 49ers also scored in the fifth with Lacy Tyler's solo homerun, her first of the season, and again in the sixth inning when Beaver singled home Franciska Morlet. The Beach begins a six-game road trip next weekend as they travel to UC Riverside (April 21-22) and Pacific (April 28-29). The 49ers return home on May 5, when they host UC Davis for a three-game series at the 49er Softball Complex.
