49ers Host Two This Weekend
Pacific and California Come to Town

The 49ers (5-5, 1-1 MPSF), coming off a strong performance over CS Northridge
last weekend, will remain at home for two games this weekend when they
host Pacifc (5-8, 0-4 MPSF, who play USC on Friday) on Saturday at noon
and No. 4-ranked California (6-6, 2-2 MPSF) on Sunday at noon (rember
to put your clocks ahead one hour!). The 49ers are in a key stretch of
games this month including five straight against MPSF opponents. LBSU
remains in the Southland next week when they travel to UCLA, before hosting
San Diego State, UC Davis and Brown near the end of hte month.
HEADING OFF TO AUSTRALIA
The last two weeks of March will feature the FINA World Championships
with a number of familar faces. Starting on March 19, Marina and Cecilia
Canetti will compete for Brazil, while former players Tara Campbell and
Alison Braden (Canada), Angelica Garcia (Puerto Rico), assistant coach
Heather Petri (U.S.) and Roberta Stewart (New Zealand) will all play for
their respective countries. The Canetti’s will not be with the team
starting on March 12 through the end of March.
SCORING LEADERS
Freshman Cecilia Canetti continues to lead the 49ers in scoring with 19
goals and a .365 shooting percentage. Seniors Christina Wensman and Megan
Winchell have 14 goals a piece, while Marina Canetti wraps up the balanced
attack with 15 goals. Winchell is shooting .415 on the season, while the
elder Canetti is shooting .421.
SCORING STREAKS
Cecilia Canetti has scored in all but one contest this season, tallying
a career-best four scores against LMU... Megan Winchell has also scored
in nine of 10 games, tallying four against Michigan... Christina Wensman
has scored in each of the last four games.
RACKING UP THE SAVES
Senior goalie Kim Hayes has amassed 83 saves this season and is 10 saves
away from becoming just the third goal to top 300 saves in her career.
She has hit double digit save totals three times this year, including
a career-best 15 against Michigan two weeks ago.
PLAYING THEM CLOSE
Already this season, four of the 49ers five losses have been by two goals
or less. Furthermore, loses at Hawaii (10-9), to Loyola Marymount (10-9)
and Santa Clara (11-10 in double overtime) have been by a single goal.
LBSU has slowly pulled away from opponents averaging a four-goal margin
of victory over the last two wins.
WHERE THEY RANK
The 49ers rank 26th nationally in offense and 21st nationally in defense.
Kim Hayes ranks 24th nationally in total saves.
