Fullerton Scores Three in the Seventh to Take Game One

LONG BEACH, CA--Justin Klipp (1-0) shut down No. 18-ranked Long Beach State (12-8) with three and one-third no-hit and scoreless innings as No. 13-ranked CS Fullerton (14-9) took the first game of the series with a 7-4 victory at Blair Field. Adam Jorgenson pitched the ninth for his fourth save.

The 2447 fans was the fourth time this season LBSU has topped 2000 fans.

The Titans broke open the game in the seventh, scoring three times to lead 7-4. A two-run home run by Jake Vasquez made it 6-4 against reliever Andrew Liebel (3-2), before a fielder's choice made it 7-4.

Shane Peterson who came into the at-bat 3-for-38 on the season, hit his first home run of the season to lead off the fifth and make it 4-3. The Dirtbags did not get another hit until Peterson's two-out double in the ninth. Wes Roemer left in the inning, going over the 100 pitch count, giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits, hitting a career-high four batters and walking another four.

CS Fullerton tied the game in the sixth as the Titans third-straight hit, by Nick Mahin, made it 4-4. Vance Worley left after that, going five and one-third innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on seven hits. It is his sixth no-decision in seven starts this year. Liebel left both runners on to end the innings, striking out the next two hitters.

Both teams traded three unearned runs over the early going. LBSU took advantage of an error by Evan McArthur to score three in the first, while two Dirtbag errors led to three unearned runs in Fullerton's half of the second.

The rivaly continues on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Blair Field.
