One To VCU
Beach Is 7-6 On Season

LONG BEACH, CA-- The #48-ranked Long Beach State women’s tennis
team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to #24-ranked Virginia Commonwealth
on Tuesday afternoon at the 49er Campus Courts. Long Beach falls to 7-6
with the loss while the Rams improve to 15-3.
In doubles, VCU picked up the first point of the day, winning two of the
three matches. At #1 doubles, the #9-ranked doubles team of Olga Borisova
and Marianna Yuferova defeated Stephanie Bengson and Katy Williams, 8-4.
The 49ers won at #2 doubles as Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks won 8-6
over Olena Leonchuk and Vera Petrashevitch. The Rams clinched the doubles
point at #3 doubles as Maria Klokotzky and Viktoria Konstantinova won
8-5 over Sandra Rocha and Rachael Porsz.
In singles, the 49ers won three matches, but fell just short. The outcome
came down to #4 singles where the 49ers Weeks was battling Kloktzky. Weeks
rebounded after losing the opening set 6-3 to win the second set 7-5,
But Kloktzky prevailed in set number three 6-3. At #2 singles, Grady defeated
#118-ranked Borisova 6-2, 7-6 (5). The win is Grady’s fourth this
season against a nationally-ranked opponent. At #3 singles, Bengson won
6-2, 6-2 over Konstantinova, while Rocha won at #5 singles 6-0, 6-2 over
Petrashevitch.
The 49ers will be at home on Thursday, March 15 when they host #52-ranked
University of Iowa at 2 pm at the 49er Campus Courts.
