Beach Drops Two at Aztec Invite

49ers Drop Two on Opening Day of Aztec Invite The Bison struck first in the third inning after Pagano gave up a single and three consecutive walks to force in a run. North Dakota State scored again in the fifth inning after Melissa Chimielewski doubled and then went on to score on a 49er error. Long Beach State tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh as Tyler singled and Panita Thanatharn reached on an error to start the inning, but the 49ers could not do much more as three fly ball outs ended the game. In the nightcap, the 49ers led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Ducks rallied to come up with seven runs on four hits and three errors, giving Oregon the 7-1 victory. Kelly Cross (1-1) was credited with the loss as she tossed 4.1 innings giving up six hits and two earned runs, while striking out four. The 49ers will continue play at the Aztec Invitational tomorrow evening as they take on Siena College at 7 pm. |
