Hawaii Escapes with 11-9 Win over 49ers
The Wahine went up 11-8 in the final period as Mason's penalty shot with 2:47 gave the Wahine a three-goal advantage. The 49ers had tied the game three times in the second half, scoring two straight goals in the third period to tie it at 6-6, before tying it again at 7-7. In the fourth, a Marina Canetti goal tied it at 8-8 early in the final frame. LBSU seemed to have an answer for each Wahine attack, as one of Rachelle Denaro's three goals tied it with 3:45 in the third, before Mason's penatly shot gave UH a 7-6 advantage. Cecilia Canetti returned the favor by tying it at 7-7 on a 6-on-5 goal with 1:31 left in the third. Kim Hayes had six saves in the loss. The 49ers return to the mainland and head to the UC Irvine Invitational on February 24 and 25 next weekend. |
