Long Beach State Sets
Standard at Stanford
Kramon Breaks Own School Record, Five Other 49ers Post Top-10 Marks
September 30, 2006
STANFORD, CA – The Long Beach State cross country teams rewrote
the school-record books on Saturday at the Stanford Invitational as the
men finished seventh overall (186), and the women finished fourth (120).
Six 49ers finished with times that placed themselves in the top-10.
Meredith Kramon broke her own school record (21:13.9) with a time of
20:52, which placed her 11th overall at the race. Ludi Valdez and Jenessa
Botello also found their way into the all-time top-five as they finished
with times of 21:34 (third all-time) and 21:36 (fourth all-time), respectively.
Kristina Wilson ran a personal-best 22:07, which puts her seventh on the
charts. Valdez, Botello and Wilson each finished in the top-35 in the
race.
"Our top-three finishers ran really well with some of the top girls
in the country, but we should have had a higher team finish," said
Distance Coach Matt Roe. "We traditionally have slow starts because
of the way we train, but we are in a good place now to do what we need
to do at the end of the year."
The men were not to be outdone, however, as Wolhan Ovalle ran a personal-best
24:13, which places him third all-time and is one of only two runners
over the last decade to run that fast. Dylan Jaedtke finished with a time
of 24:50 placing him 10th all-time at LBSU. Ovalle finished 17th in the
race, while Jaedtke was 33rd. Eli Rodriguez was 36th overall with a time
of 24:58.
"Wolhan has had a really great year so far and he is only going
to get better," said Roe.
The 49ers will next be in action in two weeks.
