49ers Eliminated from Regional

49ers Conclude Season With Loss to SDSU LOS ANGELES, CA -- The Long Beach State softball team ended its 2006 post-season with a 3-1 loss to San Diego State in the NCAA Los Angeles Regional from Easton Field on Saturday. The 49ers conclude their season at 31-22. The Aztecs (34-14) play UCLA (45-7) on Sunday. Michelle Turner went seven innings and did not allow an earned run with no walks and three strikeouts. All three SDSU runs came in the sixth inning and were all unearned because of two infield errors. Turner finished the 2006 season as the single-season wins record holder with 26. She was also the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year and an NFCA West Region first-team selection. Tiffanie Wedell unlocked a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning with a run (Jonae Perez RBI single). The Aztecs however took advantage in the sixth inning to score all three runs with a pair of doubles and two errors. Christina Ross earned the win to improve to 17-9 in the circle. UCLA unlocked a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a pair of runs, and added another pair of runs in the sixth inning to defeat Long Beach State, 5-0, in the early game for The Beach. Turner suffered the loss (26-10) after giving up three earned runs on 10 hits. Turner had pitched 11 1/3 scoreless innings against the Bruins until the fifth inning. Anjelica Selden won her 30th game in the circle for UCLA (45-7). The Bruins had three home runs in the contest. Long Beach State has appeared in 17 NCAA Regionals in program history. The 49ers lose seniors Melanie McCauley and Wedell.
