Worley Strikes Out Career-High Seven with Six Shutout Innings

LONG BEACH, CA-- Scott Bradley drove in the go-ahead runs in the eighth inning and Vance Worley (4-7) picked up his second consecutive relief win of the week as Long Beach State (27-23, 10-5 Big West) moved to within two games of first place with a 3-1 win over UC Santa Barbara (23-24, 8-10 Big West).

Worley struck out a career-best seven and walked one, retiring six in a row with six innings of shutout relief. Worley scatted just two hits as he also beat LMU on Tuesday with five and two-third innings of one-run relief work.

The Gauchos used three pitchers in the eighth, as The Beach took a 3-1 lead on Justin Segal's first pitch to Bradley. Bradley laced a bases loaded, two-run single into center to break a 1-1 tie and hit Clayton Edwards (2-1) with his first loss of the season.

Shane Peterson added two hits for The Beach.

Donne Hume went the first three innings for the Dirtbags, balking in his only run in the first, giving up one run on five hits. LBSU tied the game in the with an unearned run off an error on the infield, after rightfielder Sean Boatright threw out a Gaucho runner at the plate to end the top of the inning.

Brian Tracy, son of former Dodgers manager Jim, went the first four innings for UCSB, giving up one unearned run on three hits.

The season continues next weekend when the team travels to UC Riverside to begin a three-game series starting on Friday at 7 p.m. The Mike Weathers Show returns to its normal, Wednesday, 6 p.m. time slot from Cirivello's, with guests: Matt Cline, Vance Worley and Danny Espinosa.
